MyLifeIsAverage

Life is pretty normal today.
Today, I saw on MLIA that someone got a list for sending care packages to troops in Iraq that included silly string. I'm a stationed in Iraq so I thought I'd explain. When we first got to Iraq in 2003 Spiderman 1 had just come out there and all the kids were excited about it, but they couldnt go out and see it because of the war breaking out. So we had this Army guy who had a great idea. Since he kind of looked like Toby McGuire he hid silly string bottles under his wrists and when Iraqi children came by he flicked his wrist like spiderman and string came out. He managed to convince many Iraqi children that all of the troops can do and now all of us travel around doing the same thing, brightening their lives a little. So guys, please send lots of silly string to Iraq, we need more. Its fun for us, and even funner for the kids. MLIA

It made you smile that OP is taking advantage of Iraqi children so Americans will send him/her more silly string to play with?

...Gross. O.o

[ - ]  CaptainAndyGood: 47Bad: 131 year, 11 months ago
There's a pretty clear difference between a new person and a n00b. I always view a n00b as someone who's not willing to be polite and conform to our unspoken rules. Everyone here is obviously entitled to their opinion, but the n00bs are the ones who are obnoxious about it.

The OP's a soldier in Iraq who rapes children while tying them down with string.

[ - ]  rebgal75Good: 28Bad: 171 year, 11 months ago
OMG jeeze the people are there fighting for our freedom and calling them rapests!!!!!! whats ur issue? honestly, dont the deserve SOME joy while they are VERY far away from home and in harms way!

How do you turn something that boring into a paragraph and expect people to read it?

[ - ]  TerrasochiGood: 2Bad: 141 year, 11 months ago
I really don't know.

[ - ]  rebgal75Good: 11Bad: 41 year, 11 months ago
if you dont have anything nice to say about a story why bother commenting on it a bunch of times?

[ - ]  shanster89Good: 41Bad: 61 year, 11 months ago
I'm pretty sure there are more things soldiers in Iraq need more then silly string. My S.O is in the military, he never talks about needing silly string. He talks about needing more toiletry items, things people take for granted.

[ - ]  TerrasochiGood: 10Bad: 101 year, 11 months ago
I think I love you.

[ - ]  shanster89Good: 22Bad: 31 year, 11 months ago
Thank you :), but seriously if anybody who reads this plans on sending care packages to the soldiers. Please send items like deodarant, toothbrushes, non-perishable food *stuff that can last for a while w/o getting eaten*, etc etc. I send my boyfriend a few more personable items when I send him stuff but that's because I know him ;)

[ - ]  CaptainAndyGood: 10Bad: 291 year, 11 months ago
Well, you see, the OP lives in fantasy land. I have to pose the question: How do Iraqi children know what spider man is?

[ - ]  NomNomKiraEatedYourFaceGood: 10Bad: 211 year, 11 months ago
That's what makes me disrepect this post. It's not realistic.

[ - ]  TerrasochiGood: 2Bad: 151 year, 11 months ago
Meh.

[ - ]  sainareGood: 22Bad: 41 year, 11 months ago
Why comment if you have nothing to say? -_-;;

[ - ]  JareddmiGood: 31Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
I was always told that they needed it to see trip wires and I still have no reason to believe otherwise.

[ - ]  desertroseGood: 26Bad: 01 year, 11 months ago
Why would Iraqi children not know what spider man is? They do have TV you know. They have a lot of the same things we do.

[ - ]  MaytjuuhGood: 16Bad: 01 year, 11 months ago
I met children who lived on a dump site in the Phillipines. They knew spiderman because he was on the t-shirts they collected from the dump. That ain't fantasy land, my friend.

[ - ]  WickedChickGood: 19Bad: 51 year, 11 months ago
Two things as a sister of a soldier recently back from Iraq: 1. The citizens of Iraq are not living in the time before Christ, they are aware of pop culture - they have iPhones, Blackberrys, internet, and yes - movies. 2. The silly string is in fact used for both protection in order to see trip wires and to put a smile on a child's face. Shame on all of yall for being little shits - get your head out of your ass.

[ - ]  lingd7Good: 4Bad: 01 year, 11 months ago
Amen!

[ - ]  kerraGood: 5Bad: 01 year, 11 months ago
why wouldn't they no what spiderman is?

[ - ]  MobileGood: 24Bad: 51 year, 11 months ago
What I like about this post is they're a soldier. Everything else? Meh.

[ - ]  charmed218Good: 4Bad: 161 year, 11 months ago
since they made up this story, he or she probably isn't even a soilder.

[ - ]  GirlInTheBlackBeretGood: 17Bad: 51 year, 11 months ago
Who are you to say if a story is made up or not? You don't know what little, silly things we soldiers do to make life a little less depressing.

[ - ]  TerrasochiGood: 8Bad: 231 year, 11 months ago
WHY YOU STUPID N00BS! STOP TE- *realizes I'm writing this on the wrong post* Oh, uhm...oops.

We are very n00b-infested. Time to go fishing! *grabs fishing pole with dumb MLIA's on the hook to go catch n00bs*

Well, now you have something other than thermos poison for lunch.

[ - ]  spartacus26Good: 45Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
The silly string was actually to help find trip wires so our soldiers don't get blown to pieces. Many houses were booby trapped. I don't know if this is still a big problem, but this post is.

[ - ]  carotteGood: 28Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
It's actualy used to detect boobie traps, but cannot be shipped by air since it's in an aerosol can (considered a hazard), so I doubt they get much of them from care packages..

[ - ]  ShiarraelGood: 5Bad: 131 year, 11 months ago
Funner isn't a word. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/funner Also, fake post.

[ - ]  caitlinmcGood: 6Bad: 101 year, 11 months ago
You know how most things that are posted on MLIA usually get followed up by fellow reader and he did as for silly string :) hehe im going to see if i can send some ... how would i go about doing this?

[ - ]  KrisGoesRawrGood: 8Bad: 81 year, 11 months ago
A soldier wouldn't say "So we had this army guy..." Get out.

[ - ]  DionsoisoisoiGood: 2Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
Exactly, he would have known his rank, so this is obviously fake.

[ - ]  ChrisLaFeyGood: 2Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
Maybe OP is part of the Air force? Or the Navy?

[ - ]  navybabe09Good: 7Bad: 71 year, 11 months ago
I was going to explain appropriately but I see that 3 other people have already done so. The odds of the OP being an actual soldier is very slim (and, I would say, nonexistent), but thanks for the pathetic attempt at making our soldiers out to be childish and self-absorbed.

[ - ]  rebgal75Good: 5Bad: 51 year, 11 months ago
there not self ubsorbed they just want some joy while they are in Iraq fighting for our freedom

[ - ]  gingstaloveGood: 5Bad: 41 year, 11 months ago
made up.

[ - ]  SuperChick77Good: 37Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
This MLIA is sadly mistaken. Silly string is used informally by soldiers as they conduct house to house searches. Tripwire cannot easily be seen by the human eye, especially when in heavy combat gear. Silly string is light enough not to set of a tripwire but visible enough to indicate their presence. I'm a military veteran, and odd as it seems, silly string is a legitimate request. It even made the news. Yes, it can be shipped. Try the American Red Cross.

[ - ]  fosterGood: 4Bad: 61 year, 11 months ago
Busted!

[ - ]  HopeInTheAirGood: 2Bad: 161 year, 11 months ago
Now I understand why you are in the military. "Funner" does not happen to be a word. I think you're looking for the words "more fun." Come on, I'm a twelve year old girl. Learn for the sake of MLIA ninjas.

[ - ]  fatxkatGood: 6Bad: 21 year, 11 months ago
Funner is a word. I'm proud that you're 12. That is most good. MOST GOOD.

[ - ]  HopeInTheAirGood: 0Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
I'm so very sorry that you still believe that. Just to make sure (because I'm open to being wrong..) I checked the dictionary. "Funner" is no such word. You must be under the impression that just because people say it makes it true- just like how you "can't get pregnant while on your period" and "Santa Clause is real." Most good? It's grammatically correct, but sounds pretty weird. May I suggest "awesome" or "great?"

[ - ]  charmed218Good: 12Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
from what i have heard this is not true... our school had a drive to collect silly string and it is used for other reasons. It is used to detect trip wires, not to play with children.... http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1561143,00.html

[ - ]  BrandiMartinaGood: 9Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
I was told that silly string is used to detect trip wire, not play with children. I question OP's credibility.

[ - ]  aceyluvsyaGood: 9Bad: 21 year, 11 months ago
ACTUALLY they spray silly string on the ground so they can see trip wires

[ - ]  rebgal75Good: 3Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
thats sooo cool Thank you, God bless you Sara~

[ - ]  whalemaidGood: 10Bad: 21 year, 11 months ago
it is used to detect trip wires, but the can still have fun with it.

[ - ]  SirObviousGood: 3Bad: 31 year, 11 months ago
This is bullshit. They use sillysting to check for stringed explosives when entering buildings.

[ - ]  narutoxdragonGood: 5Bad: 41 year, 11 months ago
That's a cute story. Very thoughtful.

[ - ]  tacobabeGood: 8Bad: 11 year, 11 months ago
Soldiers needed silly string to find trip wires, not for any morale purposes.

you shouldn't say funner the correct term is more fun..."and more fun for the kids."
