every human has 4 sets of tonsils. When you get your tonsils removed you only get one set removed, the palatine tonsils.

I just got my tonsils removed two weeks ago, not everyone has multiple sets that are accessible but some do and so they drop down into the empty space, kinda like wisdom teeth, how some people have two sets of those.

as a med student, we learned that if the set of tonsils that were removed because of tonsilitis arent removed completely, they have the potential to grow back into the space. This is because cells divide and will divide to occupy whatever space is there.
