Just because you enjoy fiction that is not literature, doesn't mean you haven't read other books of a more literary bent. If someone likes chocolate chip cookies, which everyone knows are bad for you, it doesn't mean they don't love a great spinach salad. So get over yourself. Yes, Twihards are creepy (spoken as someone who likes the books, but thinks it's a very unhealthy relationship...). It doesn't make anyone who enjoys some junk fiction an unread idiot.

I enjoyed Twilight and its sequels. It not the best book or series of books I've read, but I enjoyed it. But if someone told me that because I enjoyed Twilight I not only didn't know what good literature is but I wasn't fit to learn, I'd be angry. If it had been me in that class, the professor wouldn't have had it easy. I've read thousands of books in my life, and I'm sure one or two of them count as "good literature", whatever that may mean. The professor who did this is an elitist jerk and needs to understand that even if a book isn't literature doesn't mean it isn't worth reading. Any book that finds the kind of audience Twilight did has worth. Not to everyone, certainly, but to some. It really doesn't matter what he has against the book. He has no right to tell others they shouldn't read and enjoy it. Personally, I don't care for most pre-twentieth century fiction. I've forced my way through Les Miserables (the uncut version), through several of Dickens' work, as well as a few others, including Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I've read a lot of Mark Twain, as well as more modern books that are considered literature. Quite a few H. G. Wells, though I don't know if he counts as literature. Austen doesn't interest me, nor any of the Russian works. So, I've read my share of literature, and I say *read*. I don't care what, I don't care how ephemeral the book, but *read*. And any professor that discourages reading is doing a disservice to his or her students.

Sorry, but I'm going to have to call bullshit on this story.
