It makes more sense to me if Patrick is Gluttony and Gary is Sloth. Sandy's title only slightly fits and like most other people I can't figure out how Spongebob is supposed to represent Lust (other than the fact that he tends to run around naked and in his underwear sometimes).

Um, no OP. You are wrong. I know someone who was involved in creating spongebob and the whole show is a joke. Seriously. There was no thought involved while creating the characters. The creators presented their prank cartoon to Nickalodeon (sp?) and it somehow got accepted. The end.

To all of those wondering how Spongebob could be lust, the sin of lust doesn not exclusively apply in a sexual context. Lust is the sin of desiring something to the point that it becomes your main focus. The object of desire could be an object, an achievment, or recognition from other, among many things, not just a person you find sexually attractive. Spongebob is constantly developing new obsessions, and when he sees something he wants he becomes focused on that thing, to the detriment of the rest of his life. In this way he would represent lust.

I don't really believe that the creators had this intention when they made spongebob, it is purely someones thoughts on what deadly sin would most apply to each character.

If You had watched the spongebob documentary on nick, The creator of spongebob SPECIFICALLY states that he created the show because he wanted a cartoon about an innocent character who was oblivious to everything. He didn't say anything about the seve deadly sins, so I think this is just people jumping te gun, as usual... No offense. Things like this just really grate my cheese.
