OP, you do know that countries are capitilized, right? So "afghanistan" is really Afghanistan.
You know, I think this sounds more like either the Canadian or British military, the US military is mostly stationed in other countries, like Iraq.
The US has increased pressure in Afghanistan in hopes of killing more Al-Queda(sp?) members.

We have trrops all over Afghanistan. My fience, many of my friends husbands, a several of my friends have been deployed to Afghanistan. I really can only think of a couple people i know who have been deployed to Iraq.

Poor guy, though.. Considering that it takes at least a month for any published story to get through, he'd been a dad for quite a while before he got to know it.. I think I would have settled for a phone call, telegram or even a letter, would have been quite a lot faster..
It takes quite awhile for letters to reach Afghanistan, then they have to be sorted in the mail room.

Not necessarily. My husband is currently deployed and their internet will not allow yahoo and other email/ networking sites to load all their content without messing up the connection for everyone so they are not allowed to go to high content sites. MLIA is simple and doesnt use alot of bandwidth to load.
