neither j.k. rowling nor stephenie meyer can write that well. but i would haveto say Meyer is the lesser of the two. she uses the same adjectives for everything. and without the presence of sex and attractive situations in her books they would be noowhere near as popular. jk rowling has a wonderful imagination and most of te spells and names in her books are based on latin words which i think is cool. and she has more complex characters/development and a far better thought out plot. although im sorry to say the twighlight books do have their appeal.

i like Twilight,...i think its really really good, but i also like Harry Potter and i don't understand why you must always choose one or the other
Because they're on opposite ends of the literary spectrum. On the one hand, you have an epic tale with a huge cast of deep, relatable individuals that experience everything from prejudice and a battle between good and evil, to typical high school shenanigans and funny spells gone awry. And it all takes place in a world that supposedly exists along side our own, and easy to fantasize yourself into, creating a wonderful blend of perfectly executed literature and slightly unhealthy escapism. It's characters have very real personalities, with everything from the brave boy who can withstand tragedy and adversity, and still come out a good person, to the not-so-brave boy who is a relic of older visionaries like Crime and Punishment and The Jungle in construction, who although the antagonist and the representative of evil, still contains character and give a fair fight of not only 'power', but clashing personalities too, that gives readers the type of satisfaction that can only be brought by such aptly portrayed clash.
On the other hand, you have a bland book written by an obviously self-centered and untrained author who is basically full-filling all her broken dreams by writing down her fantasies, using liberal purple prose so we know EXACTLY how good-looking her dream man is. The plot is nonexistent, the main character is portrayed with the formula to ensnare the emotional reader to experience all the wonderful things happening to her, and most importantly to celebrate her mediocrity as if she deserved everything in the world, despite never proving herself an exceptional person in the least. It was poorly written from an intellectual point of view, and expertly written from a pop culture point of view: sappy, in other words.
Those who feel both are good are in the middle of the spectrum, and from there point of view, almost everything is good, so long as it's finished, has at least one endearing character, and doesn't have run-on sentences.
In other words, average.

I agree with Aclynnb88. I love the books more than words can describe, to be cheesily honest. I don't even care about the movies, but when they come out I am pushed back into the mentality of 'Harry Potter needs your attention!' so I read the series again. I'm on the 5th one now, for about the 7th or 8th time ever. :D

Well, I was about to defend Twilight (not in "u suck, twilight rules! RP is hawtttttt!1!" kinda way, but in a mature normal way) when my internet crashed. I learned my lesson and will content myself with sharing this fun story that no one cares about, but I'm bored and trying to look like I'm working.
So I liked Twilight before it became a fad (right, everyone says that), but I straight up lie when people ask me if I like it now because I fear being labeled a crazy fan. Seriously, I like the series and I judge the fans of it. But, by the same token, I judge Harry Potter fans. Not the ones who have bonding moments with strangers, but the ones who dressed up and proceeded to act like they WERE the characters from the series. And the same ones who pushed me down at the release of the seventh book and then got angry because I got pulled to the front of the line by the staff of the bookstore who felt bad for me.
Hm, lost sight of where I was going with this...I guess we should take it as a sign that MLIA has yet to be overrun with immature, weirdoes who think that liking an okay fictional character equates to love for the actor who portrays (rather poorly, I might add) this character in a crappy-ass movie.

I can honestly say that I liked Twilight before the "teenyboppers" came around also, I haven't seen the movies and I straight up refuse to (I like to hide the fact I read them as well)... After seeing all of these comments I started to think about how much more I love Harry Potter than any other series of ever read. I would stay up until 4 Am just to get to that next chapter even though I knew I needed to go to sleep. I would have dreams about Harry Potter that made me happy even if they were scary cause I got to be apart of that world =D

I beg to differ. Harry Potter is about /smart/ wizards and the bonds of friendship and magic. It even has twists of reality that allow the readers to relate.
Twilight is real life getting punched in the face by oddly formed vampires and werewolves. Meyer could've at least given said species a chance by making them what they're supposed to have been, not pale glittering leeches and horse-sized dogs. Also, the plot is practically nonexistant.
And by the way, I just so happened to read all of the Twilight books. Meyer should've just stopped at two.

I find that Twilight is a good book. Sure it isn't the best book I've ever read though it was still pretty good. The movie was nothing compared to the book and they even added in fake scences when they could have just gone by the book. If you people don't like Twilight that's not my problem though I don't want you telling me the book sucked.

Twilight was a poorly written series that had no plot, was full of holes, had flat characters, and was a literary abomination. Harry Potter isn't "full of douche bags", as you put it. So, HP wins.

I have been a fan of Harry Potter for years. I read Twilight just to see what all the fuss was about. The first book was okay until the sparkling. The last book seemed like fanfiction of fanfiction.I am a huge fan of vampires and I read vampire books all the time. Twilight is such a disgrace to the vampire genre. Harry Potter is better written, has a more interesting plot, and is just made of win all around.

Don't get me wrong, the books are "OK" (at most) but definitely not tattoo worthy. I still can't believe it cost me that much pain/trouble to avoid further Robert Pattinson squealage. Now HP, on the other hand, is definitely awesome enough to stop and chat about on the street with random strangers.
I'm proud to say that HP has been my drug of choice since 1992 and all other fans/readers just have a little something extra about them to enjoy. Hopefully you all know what I mean. You guys = love.

I Happen to love Both series. these books have nothing in common there for they should not be juged together. Each book has a diffrent aspect that Each reader my find intresting at a diffrent point. It does not make theses series any less captivating.

Yes...the twilight MOVIE sucked...they didn't have the money it takes to make a fabulous movie...hopefully New Moon will be better. They both have pros and cons. HP is more Twilight is more mature. They don't need to be rivals. I love them both. There us nothing wrong with that because both book series (or movie sagas) have good and bad points. I won't puck favorites, but this is crazy.

There is so much wrong with this whole entire debate. I mean, I really don't like Twilight at all. I dislike it so much I think I twitch a little when I think about it. However, I did give it all a try. I've read all the books, but when I reached number 4, I hated it. I even tried to rekindle my feelings for it before Breaking Dawn, and it just didn't work. And then all of the hype came about and it was just a downward spiral and now I can't stand it. I realize how bad the writing is and how selfish the story line is.
However, I am a huge Harry Potter fan. Not only do I really admire the writing style and J.K. Rowling's amazing ability to create a whole new world along side our own and develop such deep characters, but I have a lot of emotional attachment. My best friend and I met over this series.
So knowing what it is like on both sides, I do agree with this MLIA.
That aside, since I don't really know where I was going with that anyway, I'd like to throw a comment at those who are saying "grow up and stop reading fantasy books, they're all dumb, blah blah blah" I think we should all have a moment of silence for their inner child.
And I'd also like to point out that people really need to be careful about what they say. Like when a fan says something like "Twilight is better, BITCHZZZZZZ!!!" or the really fail-tastic post "Twilight is better than HP, so put that in your juice box and SUCK IT!" we're aren't going to take you seriously and it's just going to support our schema that Twilight fans are immature. However, there are plenty of comments by HP fans that would support the idea that we are all nerds and a-holes.
And finally... come on. Don't just say "Harry Potter sucks" or "Twilight sucks," give a good argument. And I feel totally secure in having a full out war of the worlds on the comment board, because guess what: MLIA!

I don't really like either at the moment, and I have good reason. I live in another country, and I am unable to get books in the language that I can read :(.(My life is still average, except for the language barrier). So I can't read Harry Potter, even though after hearing people's reviews I would kind of like to read it. I can get the movie- is it as good as the books? Twilight- I used to like it. I wasn't a fangirl- I never went to the premieres, never set my username or password as iloveedward or whatever. Then, after reading the books again for the tenth time, I realized that they were actually kind of boring. The characters were unrealistic and stuff like that. So, I gave up on it. Plus, I was forced to watch New Moon the other night, and the only entertaining part is the subtitles. (They were in Chinglish, look it up if you don't know what it means). Also, I think it is okay to disagree (my two best friends are HP lovers, and another friend loves Twilight :)) it's not okay to wish people would die because they read different books. A lot of people like both. They are completely different, but they are thrown together a lot because they are both fantasy and both very popular (maybe for different reasons?). This is just my opinion :)
